Warriors News · Update on EHS & BMS Sports

Good evening Warrior Country, this is athletic director Steve Kray.

I am calling this evening to provide some guidance in regards to the status of Edgewood High School and Braden Middle School sports.

As you may of heard, on Thursday, May 21st  Lt Gov Husted clarified that the order initially keeping athletic facilities closed until June 30th has been amended to give that authority to school Districts. He indicated that all sports can begin “skill training” beginning on May 26 with the restrictions provided school districts follow proper protocols and restrictions. Those restrictions are important as they provide a great deal of limitations on what can be done. Essentially, it permits “conditioning” with a little more Latitude (Use of sport balls, individual Skill coaching, etc. IT clearly identifies that no games, scrimmages, etc can be played at all.

We will be working diligently to prepare, clean, sanitize the workout facilities, gymnasiums, and other athletic workout areas in the coming week. Please be mindful that we are making plans that are keeping the safety and well being of our student athletes the utmost importance. This includes, but is not limited to, sanitation stations and methods, proper social distancing of workout machines, and travel corridors within the building.

With all this being said, we have decided not to begin workouts on May 26th to allow for more time and guidance to be given from the OHSAA and the department of health and to best prepare Edgewood High School athletic workout facilities for safe reopening. With the last official day of school initially June 3rd, we have a target date of June 8th in which we will start such conditioning activities. More details will be provided as we near that date.
