Our Warrior XC teams are headed to Regionals!
Congratulations to both boys and girls teams on their qualifying runs this past Saturday at Madison HS. This is the first time since 2008 that both boys and girls teams have qualified for the regional meet in the same year. WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT! Here are some quotes from the outstanding day of running for the Warriors!
At Madison, Edgewood coach Steve Hill said it was a day where just about everything went right.
The girls team, paced by Lydia Randolph’s fifth-place finish with a time of 19:41.6, were district runner-ups with a score of 75.
Aside from Randolph, Eve Brunnell, Layce Artman, Monica Hamalainen and Caroline Nelson all finished in the top 20.
Abbie Metcalf and Lauren Kister were 26th and 27th respectively.
“We just had an excellent day today,” Hill said. “We had a great week of practice, the weather cooperated, the course was in great shape. We had four girls set personal bests, two others set season bests. We came ready to run today and had a great showing.”
Randolph, Artman, Nelson and Caroline Metcalf all had personal bests.
Like PV, the depth of runners in the middle of the pack made the difference.
“The middle of the packers are the most important people on your team,” Hill said. “You can only make up so many points up at the front of the race, but the middle of the race, there could be a person every second, so we really focus on every person in front of us is a point and we don’t want to finish on the wrong side of a couple of points.”
On the boys side, Edgewood is taking a team to the regional meet for the first time since 2013. Griffin Obermiyer set the pace with a 17:24.39, good for 11th overall. Joey Jaraface was 16th at 17:27.45.
BEST OF LUCK WARRIOR XC!
