ESPN 970 WFUN announces Special Edition of The Sports Report and will host Fundraiser for the Joe “Pigskin” Pete Scholarship Fund

(Jefferson, OH)-ESPN 970 WFUN will host a Special Edition of the Sports Report on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 4 to 6pm.  During the show, we will pay tribute to our Friend and Colleague, Joe “Pigskin” Pete, who passed away on January 26, 2012.  We’ll hear some of Joe’s Favorite Interviews, Celebrate Joe’s Legacy and Hear from those closest to Joe.


Also, ESPN 970 WFUN is happy to announce the 4th Annual Joe “Pigskin” Pete Alumni Basketball Tournament, a fundraiser for the Joe “Pigskin” Pete Scholarship Fund.  The Tournament is Sponsored by Doctor William A. Seeds of Seeds Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and All-Star Physical Therapy at the Spire Institute.


The Tournament will take place on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Spire Institute Basketball Courts, 5201 Spire Circle in Geneva.  Games will begin at 5:30pm, with divisions for Hall of Famers (30+) and All-Stars (18-29 Year Olds).  Teams will be made up of alumni representing our local Ashtabula County High Schools.  A $5 donation is being requested to attend.  There will also be a 50/50 raffle and a Silent Auction with all proceeds benefiting the Joe “Pigskin” Pete Scholarship Fund.  The Joe “Pigskin” Pete Scholarship Fund was established to help Ashtabula County Student Athletes to continue their playing careers at the Collegiate Level. Teams will be seeded based on the final regular season records of their Alma Mater’s Boy’s Varsity Basketball Team.  More Details can be found atwww.espn970wfun.com.


To date, the Joe “Pigskin” Pete Scholarship, and it’s predecessor, The ESPN 970 WFUN Scholarships have give out more than $65,000 to our Area Student Athletes.  Last years recipients were:
